Cornelius, N.C.-Randy Humphrey Racing announced today that
2006 UARA Series Champion Brandon Ward will pilot the RHR No. 93
Ford Fusion in the 2007 USAR Pro Cup North Series.
"Brandon brings a lot to the table" said
Humphrey in making the announcement. "His resume speaks for
itself with wins and championships at every level, with his
first track title coming at age nine. But equally important, he
brings a high level of integrity and an incredible work ethic.
He’s the kind of young man that any team could rally behind. We
feel that not only will he be the one to beat for Rookie of the
Year, but Brandon is also fully capable of contending for the
Series Championship in 2007."
In 2006, crew chief and former five-time
NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series Champion Robert Huffman served as a
first-time USAR crew chief for Jack Bailey, who steered the RHR
Ford to fourth in the final 2006 Pro Cup Northern Division
standings.
"We’re disappointed that things haven’t
worked out for Jack to be back in the No. 93 this season," said
Huffman. "He’s a very talented guy, and he’s certainly going to
be successful in the future. Brandon knows he has big shoes to
fill, but I raced wheel to wheel with him in the Dash series and
am confident that he can win races for Randy Humphrey Racing."
Ward was pleased, if not a bit surprised,
by the announcement. "I had a meeting with Randy and the guys at
RHR a couple of months ago, but wasn’t expecting the call when
it came to go test at Hickory. We just really ‘clicked’ right
out of the box. We were fast, and Rob and I communicated
extremely well with each other. I’m thrilled to be offered what
I believe is one of the top rides in the entire Pro Cup Series."
Armed with an Associate’s Degree in
Business Administration and Marketing, the 26-year-old Ward, a
Winston-Salem (N.C.) resident, knows that he needs to bring more
than just racing skills to the table.
"To be successful at this level, you have
to be as good at promoting yourself, your team and your sponsor
as you are in the race car," said Ward. "RHR has been working
hard to find the right sponsor partner, and I’ll certainly give
the team 100% effort both off the track and in the car to help
make that happen."
Brandon will make his first Northern
Division start this Saturday at South Boston Speedway. And he
begins the 2007 campaign with his sights set on replicating his
UARA performance of 2006, where he won twice and amassed 14
top-10s in 15 starts en route to winning the championship in the
tough, competitive regional series.
Randy Humphrey Racing enters its fourth
full season in the USAR Pro Cup Series.
"We had a great year in 2006 with Jack
and Robert, and feel equally confident with Brandon this year,"
said Humphrey. "We finished fourth in the North Division points
and completed over 99% of the possible laps. This year we’ve set
even higher goals. And everybody at RHR is committed to reaching
them."
